| TOURISM QUEBEC PREPARES FOR THE WINTER | | Discover Quebec 2012 tradeshow at the Fairmont Royal York features 38 exhibitors from the province | | Jovana Arnaut |
Tourism Quebec is gearing up for the winter season. It held its annual Discover Quebec marketplace at Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York Hotel last night. The 38 exhibitors allowed tour operators, travel agencies and travel media to learn about the province and find out what lies beyond Montreal and Quebec City.
Francois Jean Viel, director, tour & travel, Destination Quebec, told TRAVELHotNews.com that the province is preparing for the winter season by offering travellers different activities.

“We’re [promoting] skiing at all the major ski resorts in Le Massif, Quebec City, the Eastern Townships, as well as Laurentian,” Viel said. "We’re [promoting] different kinds of activities that [travellers] can do during the winter like the Ice Hotel in Montreal and Quebec City, also, all those small activities that [travellers are] not familiar [with] like playing ice hockey in Montreal in an outdoor ice rink with local people, or snow shoeing in downtown Quebec City.”
Viel said that although Tourism Quebec is mostly focusing on attractions for the upcoming winter season, it’s also planning activities for next summer.
“As you know we’re close to the St. Lawrence River, it’s one of the main rivers in the province of Quebec, and we do have [small ship cruises] on it,” Viel said.
He also talked about the lighthouse trail and the Jardin des Galciers in Quebec maritime where vistors can learn about the ice age in North America.
“We really want to emphasize [and encourage] people to get out of Montreal and Quebec City,” Viel said. “Not because [they’re] not nice, but because the province is so huge and there’s more [to see].”
