Africa was all the rage last night at Yorkville’s Intercontinental Hotel as Goway hosted over 25 African suppliers for a trade show and presentation.

Agents, along with some of their clients, had a chance to talk to experts and learn about popular destinations in the continent as well as some under-the-radar locations. The destinations represented were South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia, Madagascar, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.

Moira Smith, general manager, Africa & the Middle East, Goway, said that this is the company's fourth year to host the event and it’s the first year that it has hosted in Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto.

“The idea is that [agents will] get to learn specifics about the products and then we’re going to finish up with an all encompassing, hour presentation on Eastern and Southern Africa,” Smith said.  "This is a great opportunity to learn about the nitty gritty of the [destinations]."

“I don’t know who said it, but, [there’s a saying that goes]: If you only visit two continents in your life, you should visit Africa twice. And I believe it. It really is becoming more and more popular... and there is so much that Africa has to offer,” Smith added.

“Once Africa gets into your heart, your soul and your mind, it’s something that you’ll go back to. We think it’s the perfect timing, certainly from an agent point of view, [and they are] thirsty for knowledge, particularly about some of the intricacies of the destination.”

Toronto is the last stop of Goway’s six-stop tour. Two such events have already taken place in Vancouver and an additional two were hosted in Calgary.

Goway has offered a general trade show and an informative training day in all three cities.

Toronto’s training day, which involves 15 minute presentations from the suppliers, is scheduled for today from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
