| QUARK AND CRUISE STRATEGIES PARTNER FOR ANTARCTICA SAILING | |
Hans Lagerweij, president, Quark Expeditions and Vanessa Lee, president and CEO, Cruise Strategies Ltd, have made a sales and marketing agreement between their two companies effective Sept. 15, 2012.
Cruise Strategies will assume a number of aspects of sales and marketing for the Quark fleet sailing to Antarctica and implement a new sales plan focusing on retail travel professionals across Canada.
These efforts will be in conjunction with the team currently in place at Quark. Cruise Strategies’ sales and marketing team will provide support, including public relations and communications, as well as sales and product training to its network of retail travel agencies. Sales calls, training events, webinars, promotional opportunities, as well as cruise and client event presentations will all be undertaken.
The focus of the Cruise Strategies team will be on the suites and higher end category staterooms of the Ocean Diamond, the Sea Spirit and the Sea Adventurer. All three ships sail to Antarctica between November and March of each year. Reservations will continue to be made by travel professionals directly to the Quark call centre located in Toronto.
Quark is also launching their new ship, the Ocean Diamond this fall which will carry 189 guests. This ship has 20 suites, some with balconies and a range of services and amenities onboard. The Sea Spirit is Quark’s all suite ship, 15 with balconies, all beverages included and carries 114 guests. The Sea Adventurer holds 120 guests in a range of accommodations with three suites, as well as 10 superior and deluxe staterooms. All vessels have exterior accommodations, flat screen TV’s and DVD players, open seating dining, several bars and lounges and other amenities.
Additionally all Antarctic Expeditions include a one-night pre-expedition hotel stay with breakfast; all shore landings; zodiac transfers; formal and informal presentations by experts in the Expedition Team and guest speakers; waterproof expedition boots; a Quark Expeditions parka to keep; transfers; and a photographic journal on DVD documenting the voyage. Adventure options such as kayaking, mountaineering and cross-country skiing are some of the other activities also offered for an extra fee.
“We are excited to work together with the experienced team at Cruise Strategies to make our unique polar experiences more accessible in Canada. Canadians by nature have a great interest and love for the polar environments, and we believe Quark offers a diverse range of itineraries and vessels to experience these unique environments in the safest, most intimate and comfortable manner” said Lagerweij.
“We are tremendously pleased with our new relationship with Quark and their outstanding Antarctica program,” said Lee. “With these three ships, and especially with the introduction of the gorgeous new Ocean Diamond, we expect that we can reach a much larger Canadian audience and one that will embrace the higher end accommodations on board these three vessels.”
