A select group of Canadian travel consultants, representing Merit Travel, The Travel Group, Thomas Cook, Carlson Wagonlit, and more, were in Ireland from Sept. 6 to 13 for Tourism Ireland’s 2012 North American Familiarization Expo in partnership with Air Canada.
The 12 Canadian travel representatives visited some of Ireland’s key attractions as part of a ‘Jump into Ireland’ FAM trip. Highlights included a visit to the Cliffs of Moher, a stay on one of the Aran Islands, a tour of Dun Aengus and driving through Connemara National Park. The group learned how to make soda bread at Cnoc Suain, Go. Galway and walked the streets of Waterford with tour guide Jack Burtchaell.
At a workshop in Kilkenny, the agents learned about The Gathering Ireland 2013. The Gathering is a grass-roots movement that aims to mobilize communities and organisations to bring substantial numbers of extra visitors to Ireland during 2013. It’s about asking anyone who has Irish blood, a link to Ireland, or even just a love of the country to join the Irish for a series of events throughout 2013.
