Launching the 2012-2013 Passion brochure at the Hyatt Regency in Toronto on Tuesday night, Air Canada Vacations was sure to highlight the fact that it offers the world to agents and their clients.
“We need the trade to understand [that] we offer the world, it’s not just sun,” said Nino Montagnese, vice president, sales and marketing, Air Canada Vacations. “It’s the most difficult [task] that the sales reps have when they are on the road; it is training on the other product line.”
With the goal of communicating all of ACV’s product offering to travel agents, the tour operator followed up the trade show portion of the evening by dividing the approximately 200 agents in attendance into three groups and sending them in to product training rooms.
Passion 2012-2013 was made available to travel agents in late July and the nearly 300-page magazine provides a summary of Air Canada Vacations’ winter product offerings, including Huatulco, Mexico which is new from Toronto on Saturdays.
The magazine also includes tools such as Flying at a Glance and Hotels at a Glance, plus editorials on a variety of topics.
ACV & ME
Following the product training seminars, ACV announced the launch of its newest incarnation of the ACV & Me rewards program.
The new program now offers double the Aeroplan Miles Rewards. Agents now earn 200 Aeroplan Miles for every passenger booked on an air & hotel or air & cruise package. One hundred Aeroplan Miles are earned for every passenger booked on land-only, cruise-only, air-only or Netair. In addition, 100 Aeroplan Miles will be awarded to agents for every booking made online at aircanadavacations.com/agents.

ACV also introduced, as part of its rewards program, the new ACV & Me Select. The new program provides travel agents with unique privileges at three distinct levels, based on the number of passengers booked.
The ACV & ME Select’s levels are Bronze (175-225 passengers per year), Silver (226-300 passengers per year) and Gold (301-plus passengers per year).
At the bronze level, agents will receive one complimentary seat on AC1700/1800/1900 series flight; free seat selection with their complimentary seat; two $50 waiver & favour certificates; 500 Bonus Aeroplan Miles; an exclusive Air Canada Vacations gift bag; advance notice to all Air Canada Vacations FAM trips; and an invitation to an exclusive recognition cocktail party.
At the silver level, agents will receive two complimentary seats on AC1700/1800/1900 series flights; free seat selection with their complimentary seats; one complimentary upgrade to Executive Class service on AC 1700/1800/1900 series flights, three $50 waiver & favour certificates; a special group contact when booking groups; 1,000 bonus Aeroplan Miles; an exclusive Air Canada Vacations gift bag; advance notice to all Air Canada Vacations FAM trips; and an invitation to an exclusive recognition dinner.
At the gold level, agents will receive four complimentary seats on AC1700/1800/1900 series flights; free seat selection with their complimentary seats; two complimentary upgrades to Executive Class service on AC1700/1800/1900 series flights; four $50 waiver & favour gift certificates; special group contact when booking groups; 2,000 bonus Aeroplan Miles; exclusive Air Canada Vacations gift bag; advance notice to all Air Canada Vacations FAM trips; special invitation to an exclusive recognition trip.
“[The program] takes a unique group of agents that support us... and rewards them. They are identified as partners, and are going to be treated like true partners,” Montagnese said.
The ACV & ME Select program includes group bookings. Agents will not be required to track their passengers themselves, instead, ACV will run a report and agents meeting the necessary passenger numbers will automatically be sent their ACV & ME Select welcome kit.
“It’s to keep the agents motivated,” said Zeina Gedeon, president & CEO, Air Canada Vacations. “One of the biggest challenges we find in our business is really.... rewarding the actual agent who really does the booking. That’s why, two years ago, we started ACV & ME. We wanted to make it even more [enticing].”
ACV will host a series of Passion 2012-2013 regional launch events across the country.
