Martine Phaneuf, owner of Vacances Le Faubourg in Boisbriand, Que., is the winner of the Jamaica 50th Anniversary Contest presented by the Jamaica Tourist Board, in partnership with Air Canada Vacations, Sandals and TRAVELHotNews.com.

Amélie Lachaine, one of Phaneuf’s employees, submitted the winning entry.

“I am very proud. I really didn’t expect it. So many people submitted entries. She is really going to be surprised because she has no idea, “ Lachaine said upon hearing the news.

“I’m in complete shock. My employee did that without me having any idea,” said Phaneuf when she was notified of her win over the phone.

“I read your magazine (ExpressVoyage.ca, TRAVELHotNews.com’s French-language sister e-magazine] everyday," she said. "Ironically, I missed Tuesday’s edition in which the finalists were announced. When I read the submission my employee wrote for me, I had tears in my eyes. It’s not so much having won, but reading that message that really moved me. I’m really flattered. This is truly uplifting. I celebrated my 50th birthday in August and I saw the contest, but I didn’t have time to submit anything. Luckily, other people thought of me. I’m so lucky to have employees like that.”

At  a minimum value of $4,500, the grand prize includes round-trip airfare courtesy of Air Canada Vacations, a seven-night stay at the all-inclusive Sandals Grande Riviera Beach & Villa Golf Resort in Ocho Rios, a trip to Dolphin Cove and access to the Club MoBay lounge at Sangster International Airport and the Private transfer from Sangster International Airport to the hotel provided by JTL Tours Ltd.
