Deutsche Lufthansa AG has appointed Hans DeHaan as director, Lufthansa Group Canada. He will be responsible for sales and marketing activities in the region and is based in Toronto.
DeHaan brings 15 years of experience within the Lufthansa Group. He recently worked at the company’s New York headquarters as director, leisure and online sales, North America.
“As a recognized leader in international travel, our focus is on building our relationships with Canadian travellers as they explore their interests around the globe, ” DeHaan said. “Lufthansa offers Canadians connections to more than 200 destinations in 84 European, Middle Eastern, African and Asian countries, and I look forward to promoting and selling this vast network in my new position.”
Lufthansa’s presence in the Canadian market is increasing as the airline integrates sales and marketing for full group services, including flights on Lufthansa, Austrian and SWISS.
Austrian Airlines recently launched its new hub in Vienna and Lufthansa is scheduled to open its new Frankfurt concourse later this year. Both provide Lufthansa’s Canadian travellers with better connectivity.
For DeHaan, who started in his new position in Canada on Aug. 1, this is his second tour of duty in the country. He first joined Lufthansa in 1997 as district manager in Calgary. He went on to become general manager for The Netherlands in 1998, and in 2001, he took on responsibility for the whole of Benelux, including Lufthansa’s operations in Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg. In 2002, he was transferred to Hong Kong as the general manager for southern China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau.
DeHaan was born in Amsterdam and later relocated to Canada. He has been a Canadian citizen since 1980 and began his career in the travel industry with KLM in Canada in 1985. While working for the Dutch airline, DeHaan studied management and economics at the University of Ottawa. He speaks Dutch, English, German and French.
