Flight Centre Canada along with its corporate division, Corporate Traveller, awarded Air Transat with the fifth annual Sustainable Travel Award.

The award was established to recognize the industry supplier that has made the greatest effort to minimize its environmental impact. It was presented to Air Transat at Flight Centre’s annual black-tie balls held in Toronto on July 6 and in Vancouver on July 7.

Several suppliers, representing all areas of the travel industry including airlines, resorts, car rental companies and tour operators, submitted proposals.

Flight Centre said Air Transat was chosen because it demonstrated commitment and measurable results at every level of the business worldwide.

Flight Centre also said that Air Transat has shown exceptional leadership, applying more than a dozen measures to reduce its carbon emissions including one of the most advanced fuel management programs in the industry.

Air Transat also earned the first LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Platinum award in Canada for its head office, and was named the world’s first certified green airline by the World Green Aviation Council.
