More than 140 travel professionals and partners partook in the 24th annual Ontario ACTA Golf Tournament yesterday, hosted in partnership with TRAVELHotNews.com, made its return to Glen Eagle Golf Club in Caledon for 2012.
The weather was near ideal throughout the afternoon, save for a momentary interruption courtesy of a few rain clouds.
Final golf tallies were secondary to the day’s fun, games and prizes. Golfers drove marshmallows off of tees, putted for points and took part in other activities located across the course thanks to Trafalgar Tours, Travel Industry Personnel and TIC Travel Insurance.
Blue Cross Travel Insurance gave golfers the chance to chip a ball into hula-hoops, in turn making a donation to the Children's Wish Foundation, raising more than $1,285 for the charity.
Hole sponsors included Barbados Tourism Authority, Blue Cross Travel Insurance, Cayman Islands Dept. of Tourism, Contac Services Inc., Ensemble Travel Group, the Jamaica Tourist Board, Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority, Manulife Travel Insurance, Sabre Travel Network, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, The Huntington Group, TIC – Travel Insurance Coordinators Ltd., Trafalgar Tours, Travelinfo.ca, Travel Guard Chartis, Travel Industry Council of Ontario, Travel Industry Personnel, and WestJet and WestJet Vacations.
Following the afternoon’s rounds, golfers headed into the club house for a dinner reception, where they were joined by guests. During dinner, a variety of prizes were awarded for on course accomplishments as well as prize draws.
“It’s great to be here and thanks for coming out,” said David McCaig, president & CEO, ACTA. “I hope everybody had a great time, as I certainly had a good time out with my team.”
“I’m very proud of my team at ACTA. I’m very proud of our regional managers across Canada. ACTA is having a great year, we had a great year last year as well and we thank you for all your support and we appreciate everybody being here and having fun.”

McCaig also presented Larissa Bureau with a gift to thank her for her efforts on a special project for ACTA over the course of the past year.
He added that Bureau, along with her daughter, will be moving to Kuala Lumpur for “two to three years” with her husband, Duncan Bureau, as he begins his career with Malaysia Airlines.
Following McCaig’s presentation, he introduced John Kirk, director, Porter Escapes, as the MC for the evening.
Kirk welcomed McCaig, who recently relocated from Vancouver to Toronto, back to the city and kept the award and prize presentations moving and entertaining during dinner.
There were many prizes to be won by participants, donated by a number of sponsors.
