Thomas Cook Canada has said that a “reorganization of its business structure” has led to the elimination of some positions within the company. According to a statement issued the company last week, “a small percentage of positions have been eliminated.” The tour operator says the purpose of the restructuring is to create a stronger operating model through closer relationships with its service department and its commercial units and to streamline the Sunquest business to allow for greater flexibility. Earlier this month, Thomas Cook Canada announced that it was exiting its five-year agreement with Jazz Aviation three-years early in the interest of more “flexible” arrangements. WestJet Vacations has announced that effective June 1, 2012, it will be reducing its base commissions. In reaction to these commission cuts, David McCaig, president and COO, ACTA said: "WestJet Vacations has gained significant market share largely in part because the travel agency community has responded favourably to their commission structure.” In October 2010, WestJet Vacations supported ACTA and paid higher commissions to travel agents by not placing any part of its package price in the non-commissionable tax and service charge field.
