| FLash | Singapore Airlines cuts 130 more jobs, days after slashing 180 Singapore Airlines will slash 130 more jobs, the carrier said, days after already trimming nearly 180 to cope with increasing competition from a slew of budget carriers in Asia. The 130 information technology employees at the airline would be offered jobs with a company that Singapore Airlines contracts work to, the carrier said in a statement. Singapore Airlines, one of the world's most profitable airlines, had announced on that 70 jobs in its finance division and 108 positions at its ground-handling unit would be cut. |

| Gateway to the Halifax Harbourwalk Opening at the Port |

The Halifax Port Authority will reveal a new "Gateway" to the Halifax Harbourwalk on Saturday, September 25. This new public space will be unveiled at an event scheduled to coincide with the arrival of the Queen Mary 2 to the Port of Halifax. The park area will be officially opened by Halifax Port Authority Board chairman, Alan Abraham, Jr., and DRUM, a performance group featuring singers, dancers, musicians and entertainers, at a ceremony on Saturday morning.

| Avis Promotion Lets Customers Earn a Free Weekend After Renting Three Times |

Avis Rent A Car today announced the launch of its "Drive Free" promotion that rewards Avis customers with a free weekend rental after renting three times between September 7 and December 16, 2004. To earn the free rental, customers must register for the promotion or through the Avis reservation center. Regardless of when customers register during the promotion, all rentals completed during the promotional period, including those booked under corporate rates, will apply toward the free weekend. Rentals completed at participating locations in Canada, the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands will apply.

| Competition Bureau will intervene if airlines undercut fares of competitors |

The federal Competition Bureau is clearing the way for Air Canada to cut its fares to match those of low-cost competitors, as long as it doesn't reduce prices to below the competitors' levels. In a letter sent to airlines Thursday, the bureau said it will come down on a ``dominant carrier'' that undercuts the fares of a smaller competitor, or floods the market with more capacity. ``As a general principle, where a dominant carrier's response to competition consists only of reducing fares to levels which match, but do not undercut those of a competitor (`fare matching'), the bureau will not take enforcement action,'' Sheridan Scott, Commissioner of Competition, said in her letter.
