| FLash | United Airlines proposes ways pilots' union can cut another US$191.1 million United Airlines asked a bankruptcy court to terminate its union contracts if the carrier can't get an additional $725 million US in cost savings from employees by mid-January. America's No. 2 airline says it needs the additional labour concessions and the ability to drop traditional pensions to secure financing and get out of bankruptcy. The cuts would come atop the $2.5 billion United employees have already made in annual labour concessions. In its court filing, the company said it ``is committed to attempting to negotiate agreements with its unions on the required savings, but its urgent financial needs compel the company to file this motion in case consensual resolutions cannot be reached.'' |

| FLash | Singapore airport tests combined check in and immigration system Singapore's Changi Airport is testing a combined airline check-in and immigration system in what aviation authorities in the city-state said is a world first that will save passengers time and hassle. Dubbed Fully Automated Seamless Travel, or Fast, the high-tech system aims to clear travellers to fly in less than 2 minutes by combining the current separate check-in and immigration procedures into one. Users of the new system will carry microchip cards containing facial features and fingerprint details for identification, as well as their ordinary passports, a joint statement from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore and Singapore Airlines said. Once travellers' identities have been electronically verified, a touch-screen monitor will enable them to check in, select seats, collect boarding passes and clear immigration in one go, the statement said. |
