AMENDMENTS TO THE CANADA : TRANSPORTATION ACT TABLED IN PARLIAMENT

Transport Minister Jean-C. Lapierre today tabled amendments to the Canada Transportation Act in the House of Commons. The proposed amendments focus on achieving a balance between the interests of consumers, shippers and communities, and those of air carriers and rail carriers, while also addressing the governance regimes for international bridges and tunnels, the Canadian Transportation Agency and VIA Rail.

CELEBRITY CRUISES CANCELS ONE HAWAII CRUISE
Celebrity Cruises is cancelling one cruise on Infinity to replace the starboard thrust bearing in the ship’s propulsion system.  The ship must enter dry-dock to replace the bearing, which will result in the cancellation of its March 27 sailing.  The ship is expected to return to its scheduled sailings on April 6.

Former Jetsgo employees who lost their jobs when the airline folded this month are being invited to a special job fair next week by the Toronto Board of Trade. The board said Wednesday it will stage the job fair at its Airport Centre near Pearson International Airport on March 30 from noon to 4 p.m.

Northwest Airlines to seek bigger pay and benefit cuts
Northwest Airlines will soon seek bigger pay and benefit cuts from its workers, the airline's chief financial officer has suggested. Bernie Han, citing high fuel prices and a weak fare climate, said Northwest ``will probably have a new target announced sometime in the upcoming weeks.'' The company wants to reach cost-cutting labour agreements with its unions by the end of the year, he said.
