CTC TASK FORCE SET TO STUDY US MARKET CHALLENGES
The Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) has launched a new task force on the U.S. market. The near-border or short-haul segment continues to under perform compared to the good growth shown in other areas of the U.S. and other international markets. The U.S. leisure market represents the "bread and butter" of foreign-based revenues for Canadian tourism. Despite an upsurge in 2002, it has failed to fully rebound to consistent pre-9/11 levels. The greatest impact has been felt in visits from the U.S. short-haul market. While a number of reasons for this have been cited anecdotally - exchange rates, gas prices, border and security issues, the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts - none of the issues have been proven or conclusively identified as root causes of the decline.

Manufacturing of parts and components for the 78- to 105-seat aircraft began in late 2003.
