AIRLINE FOREIGN OWNERSHIP Industry Minister David Emerson said Wednesday he supports allowing more foreign ownership of Canada's airlines. Emerson said he supports a plan put forward by Transport Minister Jean Lapierre that would raise the cap on foreign ownership of airlines to 49%, from 25%. |

| TIAC AWARD FINALISTS NAMED |

Thirty-five companies and individuals representing the best of Canada's tourism industry are finalists for the 2005 TIAC National Awards for Tourism Excellence presented by The Globe and Mail. The finalists for each of 13 awards were chosen by a judging panel of industry leaders and announced by Tourism Industry Association of Canada President and CEO Randy Williams. The recipient of a 14th award, the Canadian Travel Press Lifetime Achievement Award, will be decided by the association's Board of Directors. All of the awards will be presented at a gala dinner on October 25, 2005, at the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu in Charlevoix, Québec, during Canada's Tourism Leadership Summit. Finalists include:

| VISITORS WELCOME TO FLORIDA KEYS FROM FRIDAY |

Evacuated residents have begun returning to the Florida Keys after Hurricane Rita paid the island chain an unwelcome visit on Tuesday. Keys officials recommended visitors could begin returning on Friday as accommodations and tourist facilities would require at least a few days to get their employees back, undo hurricane protective actions and effect any necessary cleanup. They advised people to contact lodging facilities in advance to ensure their operational status. Impacts that were felt, primarily in the Lower Keys and Key West, were in the Category 1 range, much lower than the Category 3, which was expected.

| THAILAND COMPETITION FOR TSUNAMI DISASTER MEMORIAL |

The Government of Thailand will soon build a memorial to commemorate the devastating December 2004 tsunami that destroyed thousands of lives across South and Southeast Asia. Today, at a launch event, press conference and exhibition, held at the United Nations Conference Center, Bangkok, Thailand, the Thai Government announced the Tsunami Memorial International Competition, for a memorial to commemorate the victims, both Thai and foreign, of the devastating December 26 Tsunami. The Thai Government has selected a site in Khao Lak - Lamru National Park in Phangnga, the hardest hit province in Thailand, to build the Tsunami Memorial.

| SPIRIT AIRLINES ATTRACTING AGENT INTEREST - NEW TURKS & CAICOS SERVICE |

| Agents in Southwestern Ontario have shown great interest in low-cost Spirit Airlines daily service to Florida, the Caribbean, Las Vegas and LAX from its Detroit gateway, says Matt Bloom of Aviareps Inc. "Agents in Windsor, Chatham, Sarnia, London, Leamington, La Salle, Exeter and all of Southwestern Ontario are huge producers for SPIRIT in Canada," he said, adding that agencies in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Calgary are increasing use of the airline through Detroit, Boston, Chicago and Dallas. Announcement of the airline's new service to the Turks & Caicos, which will begin February 19, 2006 from Ft. Lauderdale has already generated sales. The introductory fare from Detroit, which must be booked by September 30, 2005, is $199 US each way. AILING AIRLINES ANNOUNCE DEEP CUTS Jobs are on the cutting block at Northwest Airlines and Delta Airlines, which are both operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Northwest Airlines said Wednesday it will lay off 1,400 flight attendants. The layoffs will begin with 900 furloughs on Oct. 31, including 480 in Detroit, Northwest's largest hub, and 355 in Minneapolis. The remainder would come by January. Delta followed suit today with the announcement that it will cut up to 9,000 jobs, reduce employee pay and make changes to its network to focus more on international flying as it moves swiftly to restructure its costs in bankruptcy. The company's chief executive, Gerald Grinstein, will take a 25% pay cut and all other executives will take a 15% pay cut. |
