Sarah Fazendi, Peter Ogego, Alex Tunoi | Speaking at the Tour Operators Promoting Africa in Canada (TOPAC) presentation in Toronto last night and at a later interview with CTHotNews, Peter Ogego, Kenya High Commissioner to Canada, announced that a "full-fledged visa issuance office" will open in Toronto next year. He said the office, which is slated to start operations in January 2006, will be located at the Kenya Airways office in Toronto. A very successful experimental program is already in place with an immigration officer coming to Toronto twice per month to process applications.

She advised agents to consider several questions when helping clients to plan their African adventure: How long and how far; travel alone or join a group; what kind of accommodation - bush camp to luxury resort; and how will clients get around - by air or cross-country.

Air Jamaica Express will suspend operations Oct. 14. In a statement on Friday, Air Jamaica Express said its management made the decision to suspend operations in the face of prevailing market conditions, which point to "diminishing prospects for the viable operation of the airline." "It is the view of the airline's management that the record high increases in fuel and other operational costs, coupled with ongoing turbulence in the local and global aviation industry, make any further investment in Air Jamaica Express at this time imprudent," the statement said.

| HURRICANE RITA STRIKES FLORIDA - PHILLIPE FORMS AT SEA |

Rita strengthened into a hurricane today as it lashed the Florida Keys with heavy rain and strong wind, threatening the island chain with a storm surge of up to two metres and sparking fears it might eventually bring new misery to the U.S. Gulf Coast. Rita became a Category 1 hurricane with sustained top winds of 120 kilometres an hour this morning, said meteorologist Michelle Mainelli at the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami. Thousands of residents and tourists had fled the Keys in advance of Rita, which forecasters said could dump up to 38 centimetres of rain on parts of the low-lying island chain.

| NEW FLORIDA DEVELOPMENT FOR INTRAWEST |

Intrawest Corp. has announced plans for its first resort village in Central Florida, called the Village of Imagine. On a 12-hectare property in Orlando, acquired through a joint-venture partnership in March 2004, the village will include about 1,000 units with a mix of houses, townhouses and condo-hotel units. The site is on Universal Boulevard, across from the Orange County Convention Center. It will be on the shores of two lakes and will feature a series of waterways and walkways.
