WILMA HITS CATEGORY FIVE - RECORD PRESSURE
Hurricane Wilma, the record-tying 12th hurricane of the season (the same number reached in 1969), is maintaining category five status with record pressure confirmed by aircraft crew. A hurricane watch is in effect for the east coast of the Yucantan Penninsula and Cuba while tropical storm warnings remain in effect for Honduras and the Cayman Islands. Florida is watching the situation closely.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) pulled out all the stops with its 2006 Discover Hong Kong Year launch at the Republik Nightclub in Toronto last night laying on everything from a friendly python to eTalk Daily's Ben Mulroney in the role of enthusiastic cheerleader. Clara Chong, Executive Director of HKTB flew in from Hong Kong to deliver the keynote address and debut the new 2006 Discover Hong Kong Year commercial.

AVIAN FLU: OVER-REACTION COULD DAMAGE TOURISM INDUSTRY SAYS WTO
The WTO is to meet with the World Health Organization to combat the looming threat of an avian flu epidemic having a serious impact on international tourism. "We must ensure that people are not deterred from travelling without good reason," says WTO Secretary-General Francesco Frangialli. "Unnecessary scaremongering can cause a sharp drop in tourism that squeezes the economies, especially those of developing nations and the incomes of millions of workers in this industry."

Royal Caribbean International is already making plans to bring Grandeur of the Seas back to the Port of New Orleans for her scheduled seven-night Western Caribbean sailings in December 2006. Until then, Grandeur of the Seas will sail from her new temporary home, the Port of Tampa, on a series of 4- and 5-night Western Caribbean itineraries from December 2005 through May 2006, before relocating to Baltimore for the summer season. On December 2, 2006, Grandeur of the Seas will make her much anticipated return to New Orleans, where she will resume 7-night sailings to Cozumel, Mexico; George Town, Grand Cayman; and Costa Maya, Mexico, before closing out the season on April 28, 2007.

WESTJET EVP OPERATIONS STEPS DOWN
WestJet has announced that Thomas (Tim) Morgan, Executive Vice-President of  Operations, has left WestJet for personal reasons, effective immediately. Clive Beddoe, WestJet's President and CEO, commented: "It is with regret that I announce that Tim Morgan is leaving WestJet. As a founding shareholder, Tim has been with WestJet since our inception, and has contributed greatly to our success over the past 10 years."
