| FLash | Bankruptcy judge approves Indiana's US$15.5M bailout The judge overseeing ATA's bankruptcy approved a US$15.5M state bailout of the 10th largest airline in the US. The Indiana Transportation Finance Authority would borrow the money to buy equipment and other ATA assets and lease them to Indianapolis International Airport, which in turn would lease them back to ATA. The airline has until 2008 to repay the state and reclaim the leased assets. |

Randell discussed these changes at the Annual General Meeting of the Air Transport Association of Canada in Vancouver. He is currently the President of that organization.

Carnival Freedom is the name selected by Carnival Cruise Lines for its new 110,000-ton cruise ship scheduled to enter service in spring 2007. To be built at a cost of $500 million at the Fincantieri shipyard in Sestri, Italy, the new 2,974-passenger “Fun Ship” will be the fifth in Carnival’s highly successful Conquest-class, which also includes Carnival Conquest and Carnival Glory, currently in service, and Carnival Valor and Carnival Liberty, set to debut Dec. 15, 2004, and July 20, 2005, respectively. The itinerary for the Carnival Freedom will be announced at a later date.

| Airlines pledge Kyoto Accord reduction in greenhouse gasses |

Canada's airlines will be among the first industries to commit to major Kyoto Accord reductions in their production of greenhouse gasses (GHGs), under an agreement negotiated with Transport Canada, the Air Transport Association of Canada affirmed today. Under the new agreement, carriers will strive to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 1.1% per annum. By the year 2012 they will have reduced emissions by 24% from the baseline year on which the Kyoto targets are set (1990).
