SEOUL RIVER RESTORED
The CheongGyeCheon Festival in Seoul will celebrate the re-birth of a stream that flowed through the city when Seoul was first designated the capital of the Joseon Dynasty more than 600 years ago. The CheongGyeCheon Stream Restoration Project represents the past, present and future of the capital. The Festival will take place from Sept. 30 -Oct. 3, 2005 to celebrate the re-birth of the natural waterway that was covered up in the 1960's with concrete expressway and so severely polluted by the 1980's it posed a threat to public safety.

The Atrium Group held its first national conference in St-Jean-sur-le Richelieu, south of Montreal, from September 8 to 11, with 400 agents representing 145 agencies located in 6 provinces. Over 60 suppliers from Quebec and Ontario were also present. President Sylvain Lastère said the theme "Opening New Horizons" was chosen because the meeting was meant to exchange and create new bonds among participants. "It's also important to show solidarity as a network and thank those who support us," he added.

Sunwing, one of Ontario's leading wholesalers, will be in Quebec for the fall and winter season of 2006-2007, announced the company's sales director, Daryl McWilliams, while attending the Atrium Group's annual conference last weekend. The Sunwing Travel Group is a consortium of Red Seal Vacations, a wholesaler which has been in operation since 1985; Sunwing Vacations, created in 2002; and Sunwing Airlines, due to begin operating next November. Privately owned by Colin Hunter, Sunwing has been listed by Profit Magazine as one of the Fastest Growing Companies in Canada for two years in a row.

LUFTHANSA & IBERIA JOIN SURCHARGE PARADE
Lufthansa said Thursday it would more than triple the fuel surcharge its passengers pay on long-haul routes from 15 euros ($18.42 US) to 52 euros ($63.87) per flight. The airline said an increase was also being applied to its flights within Europe, raising the surcharge from nine euros ($11.05) to 12 euros ($14.74). Both increases will take effect Sept. 26. Iberia also plans to raise fares for the third time in less than a year. The unspecified fare hike is expected to be approved by Iberia's board in the next few weeks.
