Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Inc. to manage London's Savoy Hotel
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Inc. has agreed to manage London's Savoy Hotel, a 263-room hotel in that city's Covent Garden neighbourhood. Fairmont said it will assume management responsibilities next January if talks to sell the hotel succeed.


US Airways seeks bankruptcy shelter, cancels 20 Bombardier orders

US Airways has assured customers they won't notice any changes after its decision to file for bankruptcy protection – the second time in two years the airline has sought such help as it struggles against lower-cost rivals. The filing Sunday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Alexandria came after US Airways was unable to obtain $800 million US in annual cost cuts from its workers' unions that the airline said it needed to stay afloat. A hearing is scheduled for Monday.

Continental, KLM and Northwest join the Skyteam alliance
Global travelers will have additional route and fare choices as SkyTeam today announced that Continental Airlines, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Northwest Airlines are now full members of one of the world’s fastest growing airline alliances.  The SkyTeam Governing Board also revealed that effective September 15, passengers will be able to accrue and redeem frequent flyer miles interchangeably on any of the nine member airlines.  With the addition of three new members, SkyTeam now serves 341 million passengers with 14,320 daily departures to 658 global destinations in more than 130 countries.

Ivan heads to Cuba as dangerous Category 5 storm after slamming Grand Cayman

Hurricane Ivan pummelled the Cayman Islands with floodwaters that swamped homes and fierce winds that ripped off roofs, then strengthened to an extremely dangerous Category 5 storm as it headed for western Cuba on Monday. The slow-moving hurricane, one of the strongest on record to hit the region, killed at least 65 people across the Caribbean before reaching the Caymans and threatens millions more in its projected path.

Keys Officials Discontinue Hurricane Ivan Evacuation
Florida Keys emergency management officials discontinued all evacuation orders associated with Hurricane Ivan early Monday, September 13th and said residents who left the Keys due to the threat from the storm could return immediately. At the same time, tourism officials chose Thursday, Sept. 16, as the suggested date that visitors should being returning to the Keys. The decision to permit residents back was made after the latest forecast tracks provided confidence that Ivan’s dangerous core should remain well west of the Keys.

Sandals and Beaches resorts safe as hurricane Ivan passes over Jamaica
Hurricane Ivan brushed the island of Jamaica but the island was spared a direct hit. “We were preparing for the worst. All I can say is, Hallelujah!” stated Gordon “Butch” Stewart, Chairman and Founder of Sandals and Beaches Resorts.  “We are now preparing to welcome guests back as early as this week.”  Leading up to the impending storm, full hurricane preparations were put into place by the resorts to ensure the complete comfort and safety of all guests.
