| FLash | French government to sell 17.7% stake in Air France-KLM The French government said it is selling a 17.7 per cent stake in Air France-KLM, the world's largest airline, in a move that will help the state reduce its debt and scale back its influence on the Franco-Dutch carrier. A Finance Ministry spokeswoman said the government asked two banks, France's Societe General SA and the Netherlands' ABN Amro Holding NV, to handle the sale of the stake involving some 48 million shares. The French state lost majority control of Air France earlier this year as a result of the company's merger with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. |

| Air Canada Pilots Comment on Airport Security |
|
The Air Canada Pilots Association (ACPA) commented today on the current controversy over reports of missing uniform items from the Canadian Air Transport Security Agency (CATSA). The Air Canada pilots are concerned that the reports of missing pieces of uniform are detracting attention from what should be the real issue surrounding airport security - verifying the identity and credentials of those accessing secure areas at airports. "Pieces of uniform go astray all the time," reported Captain Kent Wilson, President of the Air Canada Pilots Association, "...but the real issue is to ensure that all personnel entering secure areas, whether they are employed by CATSA, the airlines or the airport itself, carry credentials which positively identify them and verify their right to be there."

| FLash | Dominion Bond Rating Service assigns stable rating to Air Canada, parent firm Things are looking up for Air Canada, which was loaded down with debt and a nosediving stock price before it drastically restructured while under protection from creditors. Dominion Bond Rating Service said Thursday it has assigned a corporate debt rating of ``B,'' with a stable trend, to a newly revamped Air Canada and its parent company, ACE Aviation Holdings Inc. ``The ratings reflect the sharp progress achieved on the cost and debt sides through the restructuring,'' the Canadian bond rater said Thursday. The restructuring is expected to lead to annual savings of nearly $2 billion in the airline's operating costs. Air Canada also shed many liabilities, including all unsecured debt. This reduced total debt by nearly half, to $6.3 billion, including aircraft lease obligations and GE financing obligations. |

| FLash | Butane lighters added to list of items banned from U.S. airliners Passengers already are barred from smoking on U.S. commercial flights. Now they won't be allowed to bring their butane lighters on board either. As part of the U.S. intelligence reform bill passed Wednesday, Congress added the lighters to the long list of items, including scissors, pen knives and box-cutters, that passengers are barred from carrying onto planes. The ban does not apply to checked luggage. Democratic senators Ron Wyden of Oregon and Byron Dorgan of North Dakota had pushed for the change for more than a year after learning the U.S. Transportation Security Administration allowed them on planes. ``When I found out that they had explicitly, in their rule, said you could take two butane lighters and four books of matches on board, I thought: `What have they been drinking?''' Dorgan said. Matches still are allowed. |
