WestJet Airlines reports August passenger traffic up almost 22 per cent

In another sign of a travel industry rebound, discounter WestJet Airlines says its passenger traffic rose almost 22 per cent in August. Revenue passenger miles (RPMs), a key measure in the industry, rose to 652.1 million from 535.4 million. And year-to-date, RPMs increased 30.3 per cent to 4,039 million from the same period in 2003.

Air Canada reports record passenger load in August: 83.2 per cent

Air Canada, which is planning to emerge from court protection from creditors later this month, said Tuesday its fleet was flying fuller than ever in August. The system wide load factor, an industry measurement of how much of an airline's fleet capacity is being used, rose to 83.2 per cent in August – the highest on record for any month for Air Canada.

Jetsgo discount airline reports record high load numbers in August

Discount airline Jetsgo flew more passengers with fewer empty seats in its planes in August, compared with a year ago. The Montreal-based airline said its revenue passenger miles – the number of paid-for seats multiplied by the distance they flew – reached 302 million in August, up from 189.1 million a year ago. Its available seat miles, a measure of capacity, was 351.3 million, up from 224.9 million in August 2003.

Airbus to deliver more planes this year than last after passing Boeing
Airbus expects to deliver more commercial jets this year than the 305 it delivered in 2003, when it overtook Boeing Co., a senior executive said. "We haven't finalized the delivery schedule through the end of the year," said Philippe Camus, co-chairman of Airbus's parent company. "In any case, it will be above last year's 305 deliveries."
