| ARUBA LANDMARK COLLAPSES |
|
Aruba’s Natural Bridge has collapsed without warning. Among the island’s most beloved treasures, the formation of coral limestone carved out by thousands of years of pounding waves and strong winds, was a favourite picnic site for locals and a popular photo op for visitors. Rising 25 feet above the sea and spanning a gap of some 100 feet, the Natural Bridge was one of the Caribbean’s most dramatic coral structures. While the collapse of the well-known attraction is a blow to both locals and tourists, the Aruba Tourism Authority says “this is part of the continually changing evolution of nature” adding that seven other natural bridges remain around the island, including a shorter bridge next to the one that collapsed. Plans for a tribute to the collapsed landmark are already under way. |
