TRANSAT A.T. POSTS Q3 PROFIT DECLINE AFTER TAX-RELATED WRITE-OFF

Transat A.T. Inc. says its third-quarter profit declined to $800,000 after a big tax-related write-off on French assets and amid higher fuel prices. The most recent quarter included a $5.6-million write-off on future income tax assets on fiscal losses at Look Voyages operations in France. Major restructuring in France included discontinuing air-only travel packages. Revenue rose 10.8 per cent to $552.9 million. “As expected, traveller numbers were up during the third quarter,'' CEO Jean-Marc Eustache said in a release.

FLORIDA TOURISM INDUSTRY PACKAGES ONLINE BENEFIT FOR HURRICANE VICTIMS

Bud Nocera, President/CEO for Visit Florida said the Florida tourism industry has produced one-of-a-kind vacation packages, stimulating the economy and bringing goodwill through travel. Bidding on eBay is an easy way for people to help and 100% of the auction proceeds will go directly to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. "We believe this program can be a model for other states and inspire a national campaign we can all use to benefit relief efforts and show solidarity with our Gulf state neighbors," said Nocera.

LIFE AFTER IVAN – HAPPY HURRICANE NEWS FROM GRENADA
The Grenada Board of Tourism has introduced a positive note to the otherwise gloomy stream of hurricane stories currently dominating the news. One year after Hurricane Ivan, Grenada reports remarkable improvements following sustained efforts to rebuild its tourism industry. While work continues on the restoration of the Grand Etang Welcome Centre, the Belmont Estate, the Bon Accord facility and the refurbishment of the Leaper's Hill attraction, less visible efforts are also being made on the human resources side of the tourism industry with priority training for taxi drivers, water taxi operators, ground tour operators, managers and owners of hotels.

VisitBritain is counting on movie-goers to fall in love with the destinations featured in Pride & Prejudice, Focus Features’ upcoming film based on the novel by Jane Austen and starring Keira Knightley, which was shot entirely on location in the UK. “Pride & Prejudice Country” takes in some of England’s most beautiful estates and gardens, as well as the famous Peak District National Park. The fact that the East Midlands region of England was used extensively for location filming is especially fitting given that Jane Austen drew on the Derbyshire landscape for some of her most descriptive passages in the novel.

WESTJET NUMBERS FLYING HIGH
WestJet saw a 22.3 per cent increase in revenue passenger miles for last month to 797.5 million, up from 652.1 million in August 2004. Year to date, the miles increased 31.1 per cent to 5,294.1 million from 4,039 million in the same period in 2004. WestJet's load factor for August 2005 increased 3.7 percentage points to 83.5 per cent, compared with 79.8 per cent in August 2004. During the first eight months of 2005, the company's load factor increased four percentage points to 75 per cent.
