| FLash | Germany's Lufthansa seals pay deal with pilots German airline Lufthansa AG has reached a pay deal with its pilots that will see wages frozen until the end of March 2006. The deal for Lufthansa's roughly 4,400 pilots was reached over the weekend and will result in "clear cost savings" for the company, the carrier said. Lufthansa said the deal also will increase by two hours per month the time that pilots can fly before being paid overtime rates. Chief Lufthansa negotiator Stefan Lauer described the agreement as "a milestone in concerted action to ensure competitive personnel costs." |

| CANPASS technology eases Customs waits |

The Canadian Border Services Agency is rolling out a technology that promises to ease the burden of customs clearance for low-risk frequent flyers. The CANPASS-Air program uses iris scans to verify the identities of people who enroll in the voluntary program and pass background checks. While the current enrolment of 5,000 travelers is growing at only 250 per week currently, the Agency expects participation to swell to 200,000 in the next 5 years as the technology is deployed at more airports and the benefits of the program become more widely understood.

Lapierre today announced he has received the report he requested from the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) concerning the loss or misplacement of uniform items used by screeners at Canadian airports. “After reviewing the report with my officials, I am satisfied that all necessary actions on this issue are being taken to maintain an appropriate level of security at Canadian airports,” said Mr. Lapierre. “I am making this report public.”
