Canadian Transportation Agency approves Air Canada corporate structure

Air Canada moved another step closer to exiting creditor protection Friday after the Canadian Transportation Agency said the airline's new corporate structure will meet the Canadian ownership and control requirements.
``After a careful and comprehensive examination of all information and documentation filed in respect of the proposed new corporate structure of Air Canada, the agency is satisfied that the new entity, ACE Aviation Holdings, will meet the Canadian ownership and control requirements,'' the agency said.

Northwest Drops Agency Booking Fees
The strength of the agency distribution channel and the role of distribution systems which power travel agencies were affirmed today when Northwest Airlines stood down from its ill-conceived plan to charge Canadian and U.S. travel agencies "shared GDS fees" for the privilege of selling Northwest's U.S. domestic itineraries.

Continental Airlines to not make pension contributions this year

Continental Airlines announced Friday it will not make any contributions to its pension plan this year, citing as reasons the ongoing uncertainty of the industry's economic environment and the record high cost of jet fuel.
In June, Continental filed an election with the Internal Revenue Service to preserve the company's eligibility for deficit reduction contribution relief under the recently enacted Pension Funding Equity Act.

Air Canada Welcomes Canadian Transportation Agency Decision
Air Canada welcomed the decision rendered today by the Canadian Transportation Agency which concludes that Air Canada's proposed new corporate structure will meet the Canadian ownership and control requirements as defined in the Canada Transportation Act.
