WestJet today celebrated the commencement of its new non-stop service to San Francisco, California. WestJet will offer two non-stop flights per week between Calgary and San Francisco, with connecting service available from other WestJet destinations in Canada.

New shares in Air Canada parent ACE Aviation move higher from issue price

Shares of the new Air Canada pushed higher as they began trading, gaining more than 25 per cent from their issue price of $20. ACE Aviation Holdings voting shares (TSX:ACE.B) were up $5.39 to $25.39 late in the morning on the Toronto Stock Exchange. The shares had changed hands at about $26 on the grey market before trading began on the TSX. The airline's restricted-voting shares (TSX:ACE.RV) for foreign stockholders were up $5.40 to $25.40. The Montreal-based airline's creditors received the shares in exchange for billions of dollars in debt as part of Air Canada's 18-month restructuring under creditor protection.

Mount St. Helens lets off steam as scientists wonder when its volcano will blow

Mount St. Helens belched more steam following several days of tremors and low-level earthquakes that have raised fears that the mountain might blow at any moment. It was not immediately clear how large Monday's emission was, or whether it contained ash, but U.S. Geological Survey geologist Willie Scott said any ash would fall mostly in the crater and not threaten any structures. The steam burst blanketed the top of the mountain in a white cloud and followed a similar blast and 20-minute tremor late Sunday.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. reports impact of hurricanes and provides full year 2004 earnings estimate.
Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (NYSE, OSE: RCL) today commented on the financial impact of the unusual spate of hurricanes this summer. The hurricanes impacted sailings which ended in both the third and fourth quarters. As a result, the company expects an impact of $0.10 to its third quarter earnings and $0.02 to $0.03 to its fourth quarter earnings. A portion of the impact is attributable to lost revenue and a portion to an increase in expenses. The impact of these expenses in the third quarter is expected to be partially offset by a shift in the timing of certain expenses from the third to fourth quarter.

Sandra Cosad of Waterloo, NY, is already stocking up on suntan lotion in preparation of her free seven-night cruise for two on Royal Caribbean International, which she won for helping the line's Crown & Anchor Society reach a significant milestone.
