| FLash | Amendments to federal Competition Act Amendments to the Competition Act proposed by the Liberal government will balance the interests of businesses and consumers, Industry Minister David Emerson said. Among other things, the amendments will remove the airline-specific provisions from the act. Instead, the amended act would introduce a general administrative monetary penalty provision for abuse of dominance in any industry. In addition, there is a provision for increased monetary penalties for deceptive marketing practices and the competition commissioner will get authority to seek restitution for consumer loss resulting from false or misleading representations. |
