VEGAS SHOWS OFF CULINARY SKILLS
Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority hosts interactive luncheon

To showcase Las Vegas as a destination of many offerings, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) hosted an interactive luncheon on Friday afternoon at Toronto's LCBO Summerhill. The unique interactive tasting followed a consumer event held in partnership with the National Post a day prior, and both events featured Chef Richard Chen of Wing Lei Restaurant at Wynn Hotel, as well as sommelier Thomas Ratcliff. Golf Newfoundland and Labrador held their 6th "Kitchen Party" in Toronto at the heritage Campbell House, at 160 Queen Street. West, on Friday, February 27. The intimate gathering for golf and travel journalists was presented in partnership with Travel Marketing Experts as a way of increasing awareness of the magnificent golfing opportunities that exist within Newfoundland and Labrador. Greg Hillier, Executive Director, Golf Newfoundland and Labrador ventured away from the nearby Golf and Travel Show happening at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre to let attendees know more about the 18 golf courses that they represent in the province. CANADIAN/MEXICAN TRAVEL WARNING
Canadian government issues travel warming for Northern Mexico

The Department of Foreign Affairs updated its travel report on Mexico Friday, in light of the bloody drug cartel wars that have thrown some cities into chaos. It recommends Canadians "exercise a high degree of caution" when travelling to areas in northern Mexico along the border with the United States. Cities like Tijuana and Ciudad Juarez have become the frontline of a war between the government and increasingly powerful drug cartels. Mexico tripled its military presence this week in Ciudad Juarez, where even the police chief and the mayor's family have left town. [Full text and pictures]

SNOW STORM POUNDS U.S. EAST COAST
More than 100 flights canceleld due to snow storm on U.S. Eastern Coast

A massive late winter snow storm idled hundreds of flights along much of the U.S. East Coast today, with some areas hit by nearly three metres of snow. The blizzard-like snow, together with sleet, freezing rain and wind gusts of up to 50 kilometres an hour, contributed to four deaths on roads in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and on New York's Long Island. Winter storm warnings were issued from the normally mild southern state of North Carolina to New Hampshire in the northeast. More than 100 flights were cancelled Sunday at Boston's Logan International Airport. Hundreds more flights were cancelled at the New York region's three major airports, said Jennifer Friedberg, a spokeswoman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
