| REIN TO BE CARNIVAL’S VP |

Joni L. Rein promoted to vice president of worldwide sales, carnival Cruise Lines
Joni L. Rein has been promoted to vice president of worldwide sales for Miami-based Carnival Cruise Lines. Rein’s role has been expanded to include Carnival’s domestic field sales, as well as the line’s international sales efforts, working with travel agents both domestically and abroad. Rein will continue to oversee the team of business development managers, who work with more than 30,000 travel agencies throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, Latin America, Asia, Australia/Pacific, Africa and the Middle East in developing new business opportunities. Carnival’s international sales/marketing efforts were previously managed by Jeffrey Weinstock, who has accepted a position as professor of marketing at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida.

Atle Brynestad, owner and Chairman of SeaDream Yacht Club assumes CEO position Atle Brynestad, the owner and Chairman of SeaDream Yacht Club has assumed the position of CEO. Larry Pimentel, who has been the President and CEO of SeaDream from it’s beginning in 2001, has decided to step down. Brynestad founded Seabourn Cruise Line in 1987 and was its Chairman for ten years as well as CEO during the initial years. He has also been the Chairman of Cunard Line Ltd. and a board member of Carnival Cruise Lines. He is the founder and owner of SeaDream Yacht Club.

Silversea Cruises announces “Early Booking” and “Advanced Payment” incentives; up to 50% discounts
Silversea Cruises is kicking off the New Year with the launch of enhanced "Early Booking Incentive" and "Advance Payment Bonus" programs for voyages in 2010. The new savings options are designed to reward those travellers who plan, book and pay for their vacations a year early. The company's current Early Booking Incentive (EBI) discount ranges from 10 per cent to 30 per cent off the published cruise fare, while the Advance Payment Bonus (APB) option provides an additional five per cent savings for guests who make full payment six months prior to sailing. Starting with voyages in 2010, the Early Booking Incentives will range from 15 per cent to 35 per cent and a new Extended Advance Payment Bonus (XAPB) will offer a second savings level of 15 per cent for payments made in full one year prior to sailing.

CITC to host TICO prep course in Ottawa on Jan. 26, 2009
The CITC will be hosting a TICO prep course in Ottawa, English-language only, on Jan. 26, 2009 and wishes to remind the Ontario travel industry of the new Education Standard which will come into effect on Jul. 1, 2009. Please note that the prep course will not cover material in the Study Manual relating to the Supervisor/Manager Exam. IN addition, Algonquin Careers Academy will be holding a proctored TICO Exam sitting, following the Prep Course, for those interested. The CITC Prep Course for the TICO Travel Counsellor Exam will use the Exam Blueprint as a basis to review the main issues covered in each of the 5 modules of the Study Manual. Air Canada conducts internal review of holiday season after cancellations, inclement weather
The Globe and Mail has reported that Air Canada is ordering an internal review of how it responded after winter storms during this past holiday season. With many cancellations and delays across the country, the carrier’s on-time performance fell to 59 per cent in December, which did not meet the airline’s target of 68 per cent. In contrast, Air Canada’s November on-time performance was 85 per cent. Montie Brewer, the airline's CEO, said, “We are reviewing our performance at all levels throughout the company. We are not doing so to assign blame but rather to see what went wrong, what we can and must do better, and what worked well.”
