BOEING TO CUT 10,000

Boeing Co., the world's second-largest airplane maker, is cutting 10,000 jobs after the company swung to a surprise fourth-quarter loss, hurt by a labour strike that disrupted deliveries. The company also forecast 2009 earnings that missed Wall Street expectations.

GO TRAVEL DIRECT WARNED
Canadian Transportation Agency issues a formal warning to Go Travel Direct; no airlines have filed for a licence to operate flights that Go Travel is selling, says CTA

Go Travel Direct has received a formal warning from the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) regarding a violation of section 59 of the Canada Transportation Act, which states that “no person shall sell, cause to be sold or publicly offer for sale in Canada an air service unless the person holds a licence issued in respect of that service.” Go Travel Direct received the warning after an investigation by the CTA regarding the advertising, marketed and selling of flights from Canada to London and Paris before Go Travel received their licence to operate. ROYAL CARIBBEAN DROPS 98%
Cruise operator Royal Caribbean  said fourth-quarter earnings for 2008 dropped by 98 per cent, missing Wall Street's expectations, reflecting a sharp drop in bookings, higher-than-expected fuel costs and unfavorable foreign exchange rates. For the quarter, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. reported earnings of $1.4 million US, down from $70.8 million US in the fourth quarter of 2007.

NCL’S ‘EPIC’ IN THE MAKING
NCL has announced name for F3 ship – Norwegian Epic; begins Caribbean year-round sailings in summer 2010

Norwegian Cruise Line has announced that it has selected the name for its new F3 ship: Norwegian Epic.  Just as the name implies, the ship will be the largest Freestyle Cruising ship to date.   The 4,200-passenger Norwegian Epic is scheduled to sail year-round to the Caribbean from Miami, beginning in summer 2010.  Following a series of inaugural events in Europe and the U.S., the ship will homeport in Miami and will sail year-round to the Caribbean offering alternating seven-day Western and Eastern Caribbean voyages through April 2011.  These cruises are scheduled to go on sale to the public later this spring.  NCL will open Norwegian Epic’s sailings for group block bookings exclusively for travel partners in mid-March 2009. A CONTINENTAL LOSS

Continental Airlines Inc. lost $266 million US in the fourth quarter as the recession bit into traffic, and fuel and labor costs increased. The Houston-based airline said Thursday it lost $2.33 per share, compared with a loss of $32 million, or 33 cents per share, a year ago. Revenue slipped 1.5 per cent to $3.47 billion.
