BA SHARES DROP

Shares in British Airways PLC slid over seven per cent Monday after the company warned that it would likely post an operating loss of $207 million for its full fiscal year ending in March amid tough trading conditions and the fall in the British pound. The company said results for its fiscal the third quarter through the end of December 2008 are expected to show an operating loss of around 50 million pounds.

Carnival Cruise Lines promotes Roberta Jacoby to Senior VP, Hotel Operations
Roberta Jacoby, a 32-year cruise industry veteran, has been named senior vice president of hotel operations for Miami-based Carnival Cruise Lines. In this capacity, Jacoby oversees all hotel services aboard the line’s 22-vessel fleet, including food and beverage, casino, spa, accommodations, entertainment, shore excursions, youth programming, corporate training, crew personnel, weddings/bon voyage, and gift shops, as well as all related shore side departments.  Approximately 20,000 employees, both shipboard and shore side, are under her direction. Jacoby reports to Carnival president and CEO Gerry Cahill. CANADIAN TOURISM SPENDING TO DOUBLE?
Canadian government announces tourism spending expected to double

As part of an initiative to protect jobs in tough economic times, the Conservative government is expected to double its tourism spending to keep domestic travellers at home, as well as try to attract foreign visitors seeking outdoor adventure to Canada, the Toronto Sun reported. Included spending in today’s budget talks integrated $150 million for national parks, $100 million for cultural festivals, $40 million to the Canadian Tourism Commission and $25 million to create new hiking trails across the country. All this spending is. This is on top of the average $400 million the federal government has already spent annually on the sector.
