ASIA PACIFIC AIR TRAVEL FALLS
Canadian Press
Asia Pacific air travel fell 1.8 per cent in 2008. Passenger and freight traffic in the Asia-Pacific region sank in 2008 as airlines were battered by high oil prices and slumping demand, with no respite seen this year amid a global downturn, an industry group said Friday. Capacity grew marginally by 1.7 per cent but average passenger load factor, a measure of the number of seats filled, fell to 75 per cent from 77 per cent.

In the first three quarters of 2008, 2.3 million Canadians visited Florida, a 15.5 per cent increase from the same period the previous year, said Henny Groenendijk, Public Relations Manager for Visit Florida. Approximately 200 attendees from the travel industry, the St. Andrew’s Society of Toronto and other ‘Scottish admirers’, including The Honourable Bob Rae, came dressed in their Highland best to kick off the year. This year is also a big one for Scotland, which will host its ‘Homecoming Scotland’ festivities year-round, welcoming those with ties to Scotland back ‘home’.
