ARTA Canada appoints Verónica Pacheco-Sanfuentes as Travel Agency Commissioner for IATA Area 1

| Bruce Bishins | | ARTA Canada has appointed Canadian-resident Verónica Pacheco-Sanfuentes as the newly-designated Travel Agency Commissioner for IATA Area 1 which includes Canada. Pacheco-Sanfuentes' professional qualifications include a Law degree and a Master's degree in Public Law from the Université de Paris II, in France, as well as practicing law as a partner in one of Venezuela's law firms. She was also granted a scholarship by the Canadian Foundation of Human Rights to participate in Prince Edward Island University's Human Rights Program. Other new Travel Agency Commissioner appointments include Helene Cedertorn of Sundbyberg, Sweden (IATA Area 2) and Jo Foged of Auckland, New Zealand (IATA Area 3).

WestJet makes step toward code sharing deal with Air France, KLM Canadian Press
WestJet Airlines, Air France and Amsterdam-based KLM have reached a agreement to begin working on a deal that would allow passengers to easily connect with all three airline networks. The three carriers said Wednesday they reached a memorandum of understanding to begin working on a code-sharing agreement in late 2009 or early 2010. =In the meantime, the companies are looking into other ways to co-operate on things like baggage check-in, e-ticket sales and a potential frequent flyer program.

Expanded call centre hours are paying off, says tour operator
Sunwing Vacations is reporting that call volumes are up dramatically and wait times decreased to a minute or less at its Toronto and Montreal call centres, which extended their hours to meet increased demand recently. The Toronto call centre is now open 8:30 am to 10 pm Monday to Friday, 9 am to 7 pm Saturday, and noon to 6 pm on Sunday. The Montreal call centre is open Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm, Thursday and Friday from 8:30 am to 8 pm, and Saturday from 9 am to 4:30 pm.
