Hong Kong Tourism Board hosts appreciation dinner to thank Canada’s travel trade; first stop in 6-city tour

To show their appreciation for the Canadian travel trade, Michael Lim, Director, Canada, Central & South Americas of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, joined by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office hosted a dinner yesterday evening at Toronto’s Metropolitan Hotel. The Toronto appreciation evening was the first stop in the Hong Kong Tourism Board’s six-city tour. Last year Hong Kong received 29.5 million visitors in 2008, a 4.7 per cent increase from 2007 with 395,000 of those visitors arriving from Canada. [Full text and pictures]

Province of Quebec showcases its MICE offerings at one-day showcase with over 100 suppliers

Quebec Day 2009 returned to Toronto’s Fairmont Hotel yesterday afternoon. Over 100 suppliers from La Belle Province provided hundreds of attendees with the latest in the province’s meeting, incentive, conference and event offerings. Suppliers representing destinations, hotel properties, transportation services, airlines, conference centres and other services were on hand to provide MICE planners with all the information they require to plan their next meeting in Quebec. Susan Prophet, Director of MC & IT for Destination Quebec/Tourisme Quebec, told TRAVELHotNews.com that with 106 suppliers, this was one of the largest Quebec Day events ever. KEY WEST GETS NEW TERMINAL
The new terminal building at Key West International Airport opened on Wednesday. The $31.6 million construction and renovation project plans on doubling the size of the previous airport. The new building measures approximately 30,000 square feet and is elevated over parking. It features second-level ticketing, baggage and security areas for departing passengers, restrooms, concessions, a second-level walkway, an escalator and elevator. Parking for 300 vehicles is located at ground level beneath the new building; 150 spaces for rental cars and 150 for the public.
