Air Canada launches new Europe Pass; offers access to multiple trips from Canada to Europe through the Year
Air Canada has announced that they will be adding to the air pass offerings with the introduction of the 'Europe Pass'. “Air Canada knows that Europe is a timeless destination and one visit is never enough,” said Charles McKee, Vice President Marketing at Air Canada. “So we are making it easier and more affordable than ever to make multiple trips from Canada to Europe through the year with our 'Europe Pass'.” Customers who buy the 'Europe Pass' will have a choice of up to nine major European cities depending on the season to choose from. U.S. TRAVEL SEES DECLINE
Statistics Canada announces that U.S/Canada travel is down; December traffic to the U.S. from Canada down 4% from November

Canadians took nearly 3.2 million trips to the United States in December, down four per cent from November. Statistics Canada reports Canadians made 739,000 trips to countries other than the United States in December, up 4.4 per cent from November. Just under 1.7 million of Canadians' trip south of the border were same-day car trips, down 4.2 per cent. The number of overnight car trips to the United States fell 6.4 per cent, while overnight trips to the United States by plane increased 0.8 per cent. U.S. residents took 726,000 same-day car trips to Canada in December, a 2.8 per cent decline, the ninth monthly decline of 2008 and the lowest level ever. [Full text and pictures]

HYATT EXTENDS AGENT BONUS
Hyatt Resorts extends Travel Agent Bonus Commission Program; offer available through Aug. 31, 2009
Hyatt Resorts has extended its bonus commission program for individual travel agents through August 31, 2009. The commission program, originally launched in December 2008, rewards agents with cash for booking room nights at participating Hyatt resorts in the Continental U.S., Hawaii, and Mexico. When booking resort stays for clients between now through August 31, 2009, travel agents will receive:  $50 for booking three client nights in the Continental U.S., $50 for booking four client nights in Mexico and $100 for booking four client nights in Hawaii. Yesterday WestJet announced a one day Obama promotional discount to commemorate U.S. President Barack Obama's first visit to Canada. Thousands of tourists cancel their vacations to French Caribbean islands

Thousands of tourists looking for fun in the sun have cancelled vacations to a pair of French Caribbean islands, where violent strikes have left one man dead, piles of smelly uncollected garbage in the streets, and stores looted and burned. Protesters in Martinique and Guadeloupe have persisted with a work stoppage to demand higher salaries and lower prices, hurting scores of businesses including restaurants, hotels and car rental agencies during the islands' peak winter tourist season, Martinique Tourism Authority chairwoman Madeleine de Grandmaison said Wednesday.
