McBean was voted by her industry peers across Canada as Canadian Travel Agent of the Year 2008 in recognition of her hard work. A veteran agent, she has worked in travel for 31 years, a profession she entered straight out of high school. Costa Cruises unveils new 2010 La Dolce Vita voyages to more than 250 destinations; 16% capacity increase and new eco-excursions
In 2010, your client can enjoy a taste of "La Dolce Vita" in more than 250 destinations around the world on 15 ships when sailing with Costa Cruises. New brochures highlighting Costa's worldwide sailings are now available in the North American market at early booking values of up to 40 per cent off. The 2010 brochure features a capacity increase of 16 per cent from 2009. This includes the addition of the new Costa Deliziosa, which will sail on a maiden voyage from Savona to Dubai, and a second voyage with stops in India and the Maldives. The ship will sail her first season in Dubai thereafter. Additionally, Costa will offer 240 eco-excursions with specially guided tours complete with a focus on parks, natural reserves and insight into host countries, highlighting the importance of conservation. Transat Holidays announces promotional package deals to France and Netherlands; offering new Bike and Boat package
Transat Holidays is inviting agents to book France and Netherlands by offering several promotional package offerings. Transat Holidays City Packages in Paris, France start at $759 per person. The fully renovated Apart' hotel Citadines Paris Bastille Marais is available for $759 per person plus tax for departures May 14 and 28 and $899 for July departures. The Hôtel All Seasons Paris Bercy City Package is available for $899 plus tax per person for departures in August. Canada's tour operators have put together an array of packages in celebration of this year's Tartan Day, including an air-inclusive package from Toronto into either Glasgow or Edinburgh for approximately $1,000. Greater Fort Lauderdale has announced "We Love Cruisers", the destination's new cruise marketing program for travel agents.  Designed to provide extra incentives for agents booking 2-night pre- or post-cruise stays, We Love Cruisers will debut in October 2009, during the Cruise Line International Association's annual National Cruise Vacation Month. As part of the new program, travel professionals who book pre- or post-cruise stays in Greater Fort Lauderdale hotels for 2 or more nights will receive a $25 American Express gift card from the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau (GFLCVB), on top of their earned hotel commission. Sandals Resorts launches series of cross-Canada travel agent workshops; cash incentive of up to $1,500 available for agents who attend

WESJET'S POSITIVE MARCH NUMBERS
WestJet announces March traffic results; load factor of 81.9% 
WestJet has announced March traffic results with a load factor of 81.9 per cent. Revenue passenger miles (RPM) increased 0.6 per cent year over year and capacity, measured in available seat miles(ASM), grew 6.3 per cent over the same period. "Overall, we are pleased with these results and our ability to increase our RPMs by 5.1 per cent for the quarter," said Sean Durfy, WestJet president and CEO. "Given that last year's March benefited from Easter travel and a much stronger economy, we are encouraged by our solid March load factor that hits the top of our optimum operating range of 78 to 82 per cent."

CANADA TO GET $100M?

The federal government has announced details of a plan to invest $100 million in funding festivals and tourism events across Canada. The money will be spread over 2009 and 2010 and will be available this summer. There are two main funding streams for applicants. One tier is for significant events that have an established international presence with overall attendance of at least 250,000 visitors, while the second tier is intended for smaller events with a minimum attendance of 50,000 visitors. The first application deadline is May 8.
