Conquest Vacations shuts down tour operations as of Apr. 15, 2009
Conquest Vacations yesterday announced the shutdown of its tour operations, effective immediately. The tour operator has closed down after 37 years in business. A statement issued by the company said of their decision to cease operations, “Unfortunately this has been a result of overcapacity and price war among the major tour operators, unrealistic and unreasonable demands by the credit card processing companies, credit squeeze and economic turmoil in recent months making it impossible for companies like Conquest to continue in business even after weathering many storms over the past 37 years.” Keep reading to learn more.

| AA PARENT LOSES $375M |
|
Canadian Press American Airlines parent AMR Corp. lost US$375 million in the first quarter as people flew less this year than they did a year ago, and officials said May and June bookings look like more of the same. Still, the loss reported Wednesday was much smaller than Wall Street expected. Even though it cut flights, American's planes were not as full. Corporate travel was especially weak and revenue tumbled 15 per cent compared with the first quarter of 2008, wiping out the airline's gain from cheaper fuel.
