Qantas announces profit forecast slash and 5% cut to workforce Canadian Press
Qantas Airways slashed its annual profit forecast Tuesday and will cut up to five per cent of its workforce as the carrier grounds some aircraft in the face of a slump in business and first-class travel. The Australian national airline dropped its full year pretax profit outlook to between 100 million and 200 million Australian dollars ($73US million and $146 million), from its previous forecast of $500AU million. U.S. President Barack Obama will allow Cuban-Americans to travel, send money to homeland; trade embargo still in place
The Associated Press reports that U.S. President Barack Obama’s administration lifted restrictions Monday on Cuban-Americans who want to travel and send money to their island homeland. In a further gesture of openness, U.S. telecommunications firms were freed to seek business there, too. But the broader U.S. trade embargo remained in place.
