Hawaii’s Big Island Visitors Bureau and 15 suppliers kick off showcase presentation in Toronto; will travel to Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver

| Deanna Isbister, Leisure Sales Manager, Big Island Visitors Bureau | | The Big Island of Hawaii said ‘aloha’ to Toronto-area agents yesterday evening at the Westin Harbour Castle. The Big Island Showcase featured the Big Island Visitors Bureau in partnership with WestJet Vacations. Today, the showcase will take place in Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver over the next few days. Musical entertainment was provided by the Big Island’s own Brittny Paiva, a virtuoso ukulele performer who at 15 won the Na Hoku Hanohano award – the equivalent of Hawaii’s Grammy Awards. She also sings, plays drums, bass guitar and regular guitar. Other tour operators present included Air Canada Vacations, Fun Sun Vacations and Holiday House, all providing their latest brochures.

The Italian Government Tourist Board hosts region of Pistoia presentation encouraging travellers to learn “real Italian in real Italy”

As part of an initiative to foster awareness for some of the lesser travelled destinations in Italy, the Italian Government Tourist Board hosted a presentation on the region of Pistoia yesterday evening at their Bloor street office in Toronto. Located approximately 30 kilometres west and north of Florence, Pistoia receives approximately one million people every year, two-thirds from the U.S. and Canada. It is the home of Pinocchio, the Montecatini thermal spas, great golf, the birthplace of Leonardo DaVinci and the man who compiled the first Italian dictionary, Policarpo Petrocchi.

Air Canada launches direct Halifax-Orlando seasonal service
Air Canada announced today that beginning February 6, 2009, it will launch bi-weekly non-stop seasonal service between Halifax and Orlando. This seasonal service will be offered until May 10, 2009. Air Canada's Halifax-Orlando seasonal flights offer departures on Fridays and Sundays, with flight AC1218 departing Halifax at 3 p.m. and arriving in Orlando at 6 p.m. Air Canada flight AC1219 will then depart Orlando at 6:40 p.m. and arrive in Halifax at 11 p.m. Flights are operated using a 120-seat Airbus A319 aircraft on Friday and a 93-seat Embraer E190 aircraft on Sunday.
