OMAR WEAKENS TO TROPICAL STORM Canadian Press Hurricane Omar flooded homes and battered crops on the Caribbean island of Antigua before it spun north and weakened into a tropical storm on Friday. Antiguan Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer says no deaths are reported as a result of the fierce storm. Omar blew north of the twin-island country of Antigua and Barbuda early Thursday, dumping more than 13 centimetres of rain. On Friday, Omar was about 1,075 kilometres southeast of Bermuda and posed no threat to land. It was expected to dissipate completely over the next several days, the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said. |
