| HURRICANE PALOMA TO CAYMANS |
|
Canadian Press Rain is soaking the Cayman Islands as late-season hurricane Paloma bears down on the chain of tiny Caribbean islands. The Category 1 hurricane is expected to pass over or near Grand Cayman late Friday or early Saturday. It then is expected to gain strength and plow into Cuba, a country still recovering from two powerful hurricanes earlier this season. Forecasters say Paloma could become a powerful Category 3 storm with winds of 180 kilometres an hour by the time it reaches Cuba on Sunday. The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami says it expects Paloma to weaken into a tropical storm after crossing Cuba's midsection and steer away from the United States through the Bahamas and into the Atlantic.

| SAVE MORE WITH SUNWING |
|
U.S. economic woes mean better prices for hotels in sun destinations, peak periods – as much as 50%
Sunwing Vacations reports that many of its hotel partners in Mexico, the Caribbean, and even in the U.S. are seriously discounting rates – even over peak periods like Christmas and New Year’s – in an effort to replace the usual business from American travellers. Many of the early booking offers have been extended past the original Sunwing brochure deadline of Oct. 31. “I can’t remember seeing prices so drastically reduced,” said Lawrence Elliott, Sunwing’s group vice-president. “In some instances we’re seeing hotel rates slashed by half – and just as important, early booking bonus discounts have been extended by many hotels to get more business into their resorts.” Keep reading for more details.
