ARTA Canada board introduces general and premium member categories; membership benefits and fees set for 2008-2009
At its board of directors meeting last week, the ARTA Canada board agreed to implement two categories of agency members, General and Premium. The board also agreed to a fee structure for 2008-2009. General Members are those travel agencies which require a variety of basic services and programs. General Member fees are dependent on the number of employees at the travel agency location and range from $200 to a maximum of $500 annually. Premium Members are those travel agencies which require more enhanced services and programs. Premium member fees are dependent on the number of employees at the travel agency location and range from $350 to a maximum of $650 annually. Sunquest launches 2009 Mediterranean cruise brochure; features new ships, itineraries and savings
Sunquest has just released its 2009 Mediterranean Cruise brochure, featuring a number of new additions and some early booking bonuses. Among the new additions this year are two new ships from MSC Cruises, MSC Fantasia and MSC Splendida, which join the MSC Musica and MSC Poesia that headed up Sunquest’s 2008 Mediterranean cruising season. Along with these new ships, Sunquest has announced two new itineraries exploring the Western Mediterranean and the Eastern Mediterranean, both. Intrepid Travel announces the acquisition of Suntrek
Darrell Wade, CEO and co-founder of Intrepid Travel, has announced the acquisition of Suntrek, a American adventure tour operator specializing in small group travel throughout the Americas. With the purchase, Intrepid will offer almost 500 Itineraries to some 100 destinations in six continents. “This is an ideal marriage, as Suntrek shares many of the same philosophies we have,” said Wade. “For years they’ve had a policy of small groups – no more than 13 – so that their customers can travel at a grassroots level. They offer a single match-up policy so customers don’t have to pay a single supplement, and, like Intrepid, deliver terrific value for money.” The acquisition of Suntrek adds to Australia-headquartered Intrepid’s current foothold in North America which comprises sales and marketing offices based in Boulder, Colorado and Toronto, Ontario. Effective immediately, all bookings for Suntrek product will be handled through Intrepid.

The Travel Industry Association announced today a milestone for DiscoverAmerica.com: Within three months of completing its international launch, online users have viewed 1.1 million pages and spent one million minutes researching travel to the United States on the nation’s new official travel and tourism website. The Canada-specific version is the most visited site in the collection of DiscoverAmerica.com websites, accounting for 38 per cent of overall traffic. DiscoverAmerica.com - actually six sites tailored for English- and French-speaking Canada, Mexico, the U.K., Japan and Germany - includes rich content on dozens of popular U.S. cities, all 50 states and five U.S. territories, hundreds of attractions, activities and restaurants, and booking options in addition to official entry information and an online travel community.

25th annual RBC/CITC golf tournament raises $7,9210.46 for travel industry educational projects
Stan Seggie, President and CEO of RBC Insurance Compay of Canada (left) and Mark Linton, Vice President of National Accounts at RBC Insurance (right), present a cheque in the amount of $7,921.46 to CITC's president and COO, Steve Gillick, representing the revenue generated from the 25th annual RBC/CITC golf tournament. Despite the rain-out on the first scheduled date in July, nearly all the golfers returned on September 15th, the re-scheduled date, for a great day of golf, dinner and prizes. The proceeds of the annual tournament go toward CITC travel industry educational projects throughout the country.
