G.A.P Adventures hosts Latin-themed party to celebrate 2009-2010 brochure launch

G.A.P Adventures took over Revival nightclub in downtown Toronto last night, hosting hundreds of guests at a Latin-themed party to celebrate their brand new 2009-2010 brochure. The décor was inspired by Brazil, the Mayan civilization, and Peru’s Machu Picchu. Other representatives from G.A.P’s Planeterra non-profit foundation and their groups department were on hand to speak to agents and the media. TRAVELHotNews.com spoke to C.E.O. Bruce Poon Tip, who said his company is fortunate, as “we aren’t experiencing any slowdown,” in light of the economy, and that many new partners have signed on with G.A.P. He noted that the company’s business increased by 60 per cent as of September 2008, compared to the same period last year. [Full text and pictures]


THAI TRAVEL UPDATE
Tourism Authority of Thailand, Ministry of Tourism to accommodate stranded passengers
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) sent a release out this morning noting that “all relevant government agencies and private sector associations were providing facilitation in the form of accommodation, meals” and more. In addition, the government will try to reopen Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang International Airports “as soon as possible.” The Thai government noted that “all other locations, tourist destinations and attractions nationwide are not being affected by this situation and are very safe for travel purposes.” Keep reading for the latest updates. Arizona-themed annual gala showcases Radonic Rodgers’ 2008 achievements, thanks clients

Radonic Rodgers was calling all cowboys and cowgirls to their ‘Amazing Arizona’ annual gala, hosted at the Toscana Banquet & Conference Centre at the Hilton Garden Inn, Vaughan. The Arizona-themed party had guests dressing up in their best Western gear, whether it was cowboy hats or Navajo ponchos. Partners Ed Radonic and Ross Rodgers, introduced their team and talked about some of the awards the company won in 2008.  Two of the awards were internationally recognized, including the Summit Award, given for a direct mail campaign, and the Tabpi Award, which Radonic Rodgers won for a trade association business publication they worked on. The company also won a Gold JASPER Award in the U.S., for a website design. Fred Azouz, Vice President, said that Radonic Rodgers has added a new division to the list of services they offer clients – representational services for destinations, attractions or products. Call centre closed on Dec. 25, 2008 and Jan. 1, 2009
Sunwing has announced their call centre hours for the holiday season.
Here is the schedule: 
-On December 24 and December 31, 2008, the hours will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST.
-On Dec. 25, 2008 and Jan. 1, 2009, the call centre will be closed.
-On Dec. 26, the hours will be 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. EST.

ANDERSON CARES FOR TOURISM
Anderson Vacations launches North America wide S.O.S. program, Tourism Cares

While in Pittsburgh attending the annual National Tour Association Convention November 15 to 19, president and CEO of Anderson Vacations, Corey Marshall, presented Tourism Cares the first donation to their new Save our Sites Program (S.O.S.). Anderson Vacations implemented a program named ”Twoonies for Tourism Cares” at the beginning of 2008 on all escorted tour programs, enabling passengers to donate loose pocket change to the SOS program. Anderson Vacations then matched dollar for dollar the amount collected through Oct 31, 2008 from their passengers and presented a cheque for $5,241.78US at a gala event in Pittsburg, PA on November 16. AIR TRAFFIC CONTINUES TO SLIDE
IATA shows 2nd consecutive month of global air traffic decline; has not yet hit bottom, says Giovanni Bisignani
IATA has announced a second consecutive month of global decline in international air traffic for October 2008. International passenger traffic declined by 1.3 per cent compared to the same period last year, a smaller decline than the 2.9 per cent drop experienced in September.  The October load factor was 75 per cent, approximately 2 per cent below previous year levels. International air freight traffic contracted by 7.9 per cent in October for a fifth consecutive month of “increasingly severe” drops, said IATA in a release. Giovanni Bisignani, IATA's CEO and Director General, says that "the worst is yet to come". [Full text and pictures]
