Statistics show Mexico tourism boost, despite the economic crisis
According to the Caribbean Tourism Organization and Tourism Officials in Mexico, the economic crisis and the high prices of flight tickets are actually helping to boost tourism in Mexico. They have recently released the following stats: In the last six months, Mexico’s beach hot spots have surpassed other traditionally popular Caribbean gateways such as Bahamas and Bermudas. Mexico and the Mayan Riviera are leading this trend attracting foreigners mainly from USA and Canada. Cancun, Mexico’s top tourist destination continues to lead the list with a growth of six per cent between January and August 2008.

The Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau hosts media reception and brings the Miami “Express Yourself” campaign to Toronto Lisa Raffaele
As part of an annual event, the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau and the city’s destination partners welcomed Canadian media to a reception at Toronto’s Loki Lounge yesterday evening. In its third year, the media reception, this year themed “Express Yourself” invited the media to casually interact with the city’s partners and have their picture taken with Miami’s new marketing campaign, an iconic silver mannequin affectionately named Mimi. Miami’s new marketing campaign had Mimi strategically positioned in high-traffic areas throughout the city and in Bryant Park during the New York City Film Festival. The campaign also included a social networking component via Facebook.com.

Belinda Combrink and Kirsty Perring are the two new destination specialist staff in the division. Both women bring 30 years of combined travel experience to the company, says AFRICAExperts General Manager Moira Smith, who also said that both women have travelled extensively around the continent and have worked with the largest wholesale operator in Africa prior to joining Goway. Belinda Combrink has traveled extensively throughout the USA, Asia and Europe as well as her native Africa. Kirsty Perring has worked in Africa and the UK customizing upscale FIT itineraries for discerning travellers to Africa, and aside from her travels around Asia, she has been fortunate to experience Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Kenya, Mauritius, Egypt, Dubai, South Africa, and Mozambique.

Stats Canada says visitation numbers to Canada are up 2.1% in September due to travel from U.S.; travel from overseas down 2.7% Canadian Press The number of visitors to Canada rose 2.1 per cent in September due to an increase in overnight travel from the United States. Statistics Canada says overnight travel from the United States rose 7.2 per cent to a million trips in September after four straight months of declines. The agency says the increase was largely the result of more overnight trips by car. The number of same-day car trips by U.S. residents to Canada fell to 746,000 in September, down 1.1 per cent from August. Travel from overseas countries to Canada declined 2.7 per cent from August to 397,000 trips in September, with drops in 10 of the top 12 overseas markets.

City Passports releases new regional guide book “Explore Canada” and offers agencies 25% commission valid till May 31, 2009
City Passports has released a new regional guide book; "Explore Canada" to encourage travel agents to promote domestic travel within Canada. To launch the program to the travel trade, City Passports is offering travel agencies that feature/sell City Passports on their website, a 25 per cent commission on any orders of a Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, Vancouver, or Victoria City Passport, or an Explore Canada West or Central Canada guide. This offer is valid to May 31, 2009. In addition, each travel agency that signs up to participate can receive two free City Passports or an Explore Canada guide to use and showcase to clients travelling prior to May 31, 2009.
