Air Canada loses $132M in Q3, internal memo asks staff to provide better service in light of competition Charmaine Pang
The Globe and Mail has reported that Air Canada’s majority owner, ACE Aviation Holdings Inc., is considering its options to dissolve the holding company. Montreal-based ACE holds 75 per cent of Air Canada’s shares. The airline’s shares have dropped by 33 per cent since Friday’s announcement of a $132 million loss in the third quarter of 2008, and some analysts have speculated a shortage of cash in the airline. Air Canada will also face a tough first quarter in 2009 as it plans to cut seat capacity by about 7 to 9 per cent, while rival airline WestJet is set to increase their capacity by 5 per cent in the same period. | CANADA IS #2 TOURISM BRAND |
|
International survey ranks Canada's brand #2 in the world, but ranked 9th on the list of places to visit or return to Charmaine Pang
Canadians’ efforts to rebrand their tourism image is working, according to a new international study. The Canada travel brand was ranked number two in the world in a survey of 2,700 visitors, up from sixth place last year. Global travellers are encouraged to “keep exploring” the country. However, Canada is ranked ninth as the place visitors would most like to return to or visit. Canadian tourism and travel officials are looking forward to the added boost in publicity and media coverage that the 2010 Winter Olympics will bring not only to Vancouver and Whistler, B.C., but to the whole nation. Over one billion people will gain awareness of Canada simply through the sporting event.
