We recently asked our readers what their opinions were on the EU allowing mobile phones in flight. Sixty-seven per cent thought a simple "Two words: Air Rage" would suffice. Another 19 per cent of readers agreed with the statement "I think it's a great idea; my clients will love it", and 15 per cent thought it was "another ploy for airlines to make more money".

ISRAEL CELEBRATES 60TH ANNIVERSARY

Toronto celebrated Israel's 60th Anniversary on May 8th at the Ricoh Coliseum; Master of Ceremonies was film producer Ivan Reitman. The event was attended by over 7,000 enthusiastic members of Toronto's Jewish community and other well-wishers including dignitaries representing Canada's Federal and Provincial governments. The Right Honourable Mr. Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, made a special appearance and addressed the audience proclaiming his governments continued support of Israel.  Entertainment included the visiting Israel Defence Forces Ensemble, dancers from the Israel Ballet and head-liner Israeli Hip-Hop sensations Hadag Nachash who brought everyone to their feet. More Americans will take international leisure trips this summer
The economy is troubled and the dollar is weak. But one forecast suggests that Americans aren't giving up international travel. Travel organization AAA and Global Insight, a forecasting company, predicted 25.1 million Americans will take leisure trips outside the U.S. this summer, up 2.6 per cent from last year. The forecast counts Canada and Mexico among international destinations. ``Those that choose to make these trips are reallocating their budgets,'' said Ken McGill, executive managing director of Global Insight, a forecasting company. ``Leisure travel has become not only a necessity to many American travellers, it's become almost a divine right.'' RBC Insurance has announced enhancements to its travel insurance products and services. These improvements, which are now in effect, include an increase to benefits and two new risks relating to cruise vacations, as well as the introduction of a new sales tool that helps travel agents discuss insurance with their clients. Enhancements include: -The Client Insurance Guide: this new tool allows agents to review with clients, at the time of sale, coverage details on any stand alone coverage as well as any travel insurance package, including covered situations, benefits and exclusions due to pre-existing medical conditions. AC SALE DELAYED DUE TO FUEL PRICES

Soaring fuel prices that have battered airline valuations will likely delay the sale of ACE Aviation Holdings majority stake in Air Canada, says Robert Milton, the chairman and chief executive of the holding company. ACE has received a lot of interest from parties interested in buying its 75 per cent stake in Canada's largest airline, but the timing may not be right to obtain maximum return, Milton said.
CARIBBEAN HOTEL & TOURISM CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS
The 12th Annual Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Investment Conference (CHTIC) concluded with an optimistic outlook for the Caribbean region as a record-breaking 522 delegates met at the newly opened Hyatt Regency Trinidad May 6-8, 2008. There is currently more than $100 billion in investment in the region (according to the World Travel & Tourism Council) devoted to improving and expanding tourism facilities and infrastructure, and the next 12-18 months of bookings in the region are healthy.
CARNIVAL SEES INCREASE IN SHORE EXCURSION SALES
Carnival Cruise Lines is experiencing a 16 percent year-over-year increase in on-line shore excursion sales and expects that a record one million shore excursion tickets will be purchased via carnival.com in 2008. And with the debut of the Carnival Splendor from Europe in July, Carnival will offer an unprecedented 1,982 shore excursion choices in 114 ports visited by its 22-vessel fleet.
