The lunch event was strictly for members of the media; yesterday evening, travel agents and tour operators were hosted at a separate event. No less than 43 travel partners representing all regions of New York State were present. The event is the first time that New York State has reached out officially to Canadians as a unified force. Travel partners included members representing various areas of the state, including the Finger Lakes, the Niagara region, the greater Rochester area, the Thousand Islands, New York waterways and more. | ICELAND PARTNERS COME TO CANADA |

Yesterday evening at the Sutton Place Hotel in downtown Toronto, a trade delegation of 17 Icelandic tourism partners hosted approximately 70 members of the travel trade. Select travel agents, tour operators and the media enjoyed cocktails while getting to know their Icelandic compatriots. Inbound tour operators, excursion companies, day tour organizers, hoteliers and more had a chance to do business with the Canadian travel trade. Now that Icelandair is flying out of Toronto and Halifax, Iceland (and beyond) is becoming a hot destination for Canadians this summer. Thorleifur Thor Jonsson, Project Manager, Market Development for the Trade Council of Iceland, said the representatives were in Toronto “for the sole purpose of gaining meaningful business with the Canadian public”. | SUNWING’S FLORIDA 2009 IS READY TO BOOK |
|
Take off to Florida in 2009; three new routes from YOW, YUL Sunwing’s expanded Florida 2009 program is all ready to book. Travellers are planning earlier, especially during school breaks, says Sunwing vice president USA Division Reg Mendes. “Our expanded Florida program is in the system and agents are already booking, especially for peak periods.” The operator has added three new routes for this coming winter: Ottawa and Montreal will both have weekly flights to Orlando starting in December. Montreal will also have twice-weekly service to Ft. Lauderdale. Toronto flights will continue to the same destinations (Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, Fort Myers and St. Pete/Clearwater), with the added bonus of frequency to Orlando stepped up from four flights a week this past winter to daily service for 2008/09. In total, Sunwing will more than double its capacity from Canada to Orlando over last winter.

| CANADIANS FLOCK TO JAMAICA THIS WINTER |

Jamaica celebrates most successful winter for Canadian visitors The Jamaica Tourist Board announced the most successful winter ever for Canadian visitors with more than 92,000 Canadians visiting between January and March. These first quarter results reflect an increase of 30.6 per cent compared with the same time period in 2007. This year, the destination will see more flights and more gateways from different parts of Canada. Also, new hotels including the Grand Palladium from the Fiesta Hotel Group, RIU Montego Bay and the second phase of Iberostar Rose Hall will be opening. “We are ecstatic about Jamaica’s development in the Canadian market and we hope to entice more Canadians to experience the beauty of Jamaica for themselves,” says Sandra Scott, Regional Director Canada, Jamaica Tourist Board. “With new and expanded hotels and attractions opening, we will have exciting new things for Canadian travellers to experience all year long.”
