JETBLUE SEES LOSS Canadian Press JetBlue Airways Corp. said Tuesday record jet fuel costs drove it to a second-quarter loss, but the shortfall was less than Wall Street was expecting. JetBlue posted a loss of $7US million, or three cents per share, compared with a year-ago profit of $21 million, or 11 cents per share. Revenue rose 18 per cent, to $859 million, from $730 million a year earlier. |

Sunwing Vacations has announced that the company will be offering luxury Caribbean cruises in conjunction with Princess Cruises for departures beginning this winter. The one week cruise packages will include airfare from Toronto or Montreal to San Juan, Puerto Rico on board Sunwing Airlines, cruise accommodation, transfers, on board meals, as well as snacks and entertainment. Sunwing has also included the gratuities to cabin stewards and dining room staff in its cruise prices. Two one week itineraries are being offered: The Classic Southern Caribbean visits Barbados, St. Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, and St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. | PORTER CONTINUES EXPANSION |

Porter Airlines restores 7 daily flights in September with Newark expansion Porter Airlines will fly a full schedule of seven roundtrip flights every weekday between Toronto City Centre Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport as of Sept. 3. In addition, Porter will operate three roundtrips on Saturdays and six on Sundays. This year-round schedule is approved by the FAA through summer 2009. With 44 weekly roundtrip flights, this represents a 16 per cent increase over Porter’s current schedule and a 10 per cent increase compared to its inaugural March 31 schedule. “Our continued efforts working with the FAA and other airlines have resulted in an even better schedule than we initially started with,” said Robert Deluce, President and CEO of Porter Airlines.

Air Canada Vacations increases short-stay Escapades to Europe by adding five destinations - Dublin, Frankfurt, Madrid, Munich and Zurich. Travellers can choose from over 50 hotels available throughout the five newly-added cities and from more than 60 weekly non-stop flights from Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Ottawa. TRAVELLER WARNING: YELLOW FEVER Canadian Press The Public Health Agency of Canada is recommending that travellers get vaccinated against yellow fever and protect themselves from mosquito bites when going to certain parts of Brazil. Brazil's Health Ministry recently confirmed 45 human cases of yellow fever, including 25 deaths. Yellow fever is caused by a virus that is spread to humans through mosquito bites. |

CATHAY INTRODUCES FUEL SURCHARGE Cathay Pacific Airways has increased fares for First and Business Class passengers on most of its routes to and from Hong Kong. The fare increases range from three to 15 per cent. Effective Sept. 16, Cathay will revert its Toronto service to a daily, non-stop -service from Hong Kong, with the three seasonal flights per week routed through Anchorage being discontinued. |

US AIRWAYS’ 2ND QUARTER LOSS Canadian Press US Airways Group Inc. says it swung to a huge second-quarter loss as it struggled to deal with a spike in fuel costs. For the three months that ended June 30, 2008, US Airways said Tuesday it lost $567US million, or $6.16 per share, compared with a profit of $263 million, or $2.77 per share, for the same period last year. Revenue rose three per cent to $3.26 billion. |
