AC CAN TAKE THE HEAT, SAYS MILTON
Robert Milton, President/CEO of ACE Aviation
Air Canada better positioned than peers to withstand high fuel prices: Milton
Canadian Press

Air Canada is better placed than its competitors to withstand the current spike in fuel prices, says Robert Milton, president and CEO of ACE Aviation, the carrier's parent company. Unlike most airlines in the world, Air Canada has weathered not only the crisis sparked by the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks but another linked to severe acute respiratory syndrome that hit Canadian air travel in 2003, Milton said today after the annual meeting of ACE shareholders. He said Air Canada can also count on a fleet of newer, more energy efficient planes than most of its U.S. competitors. The former Air Canada president says he believes the current crisis will eliminate many airlines, particularly low-cost carriers, and the survivors will be stronger. Earlier this month, Air Canada announced a reduction of seven per cent of its capacity, a measure that will cut 2,000 jobs.

VIRGIN ECO-RESORTS ON THE WAY
Canadian Press
Richard Branson, the chairman of the Virgin Group of companies, says his two private Caribbean islands have a higher purpose than serving as ultra-luxury retreats for entertainment and business A-listers. Walking barefoot on the sandy trails of his Necker Island, the British tycoon said his sun-soaked island properties in this British chain will prove that the Caribbean - with its wealth of sun, wind and waves - can lead the globe in renewable alternatives to carbon fuels.
